Majestic Beauty Olive Tree - Olea Majestic Beauty
Transform Your Landscape with a Stunning, Fruitless Olive Tree
The Majestic Beauty olive tree delivers everything you love about Mediterranean olive trees-silvery foliage, sculptural form, Old World elegance-without the headache of cleaning up fallen fruit. This popular, evergreen cultivar (Olea europaea 'Monher') creates a sophisticated, low-maintenance focal point that thrives in California's sun-drenched climate. If you've been searching for the perfect patio or garden tree that looks incredible year-round and practically takes care of itself, the Majestic Beauty fruitless olive is exactly what your yard needs.
Why You'll Love It
-
No messy fruit cleanup – The Majestic Beauty olive tree produces no fruit. Unlike standard olive trees that produce messy mature fruit all over your driveway and walkways, this cultivar keeps your outdoor spaces spotless. The tree does not drop sticky, staining fruit, so it's safe near pools, patios, and cars.
-
Drought tolerant once established – The Majestic Beauty olive tree is drought-tolerant once established, making it ideal for water-wise California landscapes. It thrives in hot dry regions with minimal irrigation, saving you time and money on your water bill.
-
Year-round evergreen beauty – As an evergreen, the gray green foliage stays lush and present through every season. No bare branches in winter-just constant visual interest from those distinctive silvery leaves.
-
Mediterranean charm that builds over time – The Majestic Beauty olive tree features long, thin, silvery-gray-green leaves, and as the tree ages, the trunk develops a beautifully gnarled, twisted character that gives your landscape authentic Old World appeal.
-
Low maintenance – This slow growing tree means less pruning, less watering once rooted in, and fewer problems overall. It's the kind of garden tree you plant and enjoy, not stress over.
What Makes It Different
Most olive trees are gorgeous-until they blanket your patio in slippery, staining fruit every season. Standard varieties produce messy mature fruit that attracts pests, stains hardscaping, and demands constant cleanup.
Majestic Beauty offers:
-
Sterile flowers, zero mess – It blooms with delicate white spring flowers that are sterile, meaning virtually no pollen production and no fruit development. The Majestic Beauty olive tree is planted near pedestrian areas without the risk of fruit stains-something few other olive varieties can claim.
-
Sculptural trunk character – The tree has an upright, refined, and open canopy growth habit that develops the classic twisted olive trunk appearance over the years. The green leaves are narrow and long giving it an airy appearance that's distinct from denser fruitless olive varieties like Swan Hill or Wilsonii.
-
Born in California, bred for California – Discovered by Julian Herman in 1978 in Irvine, California, and propagated by Monrovia, this cultivar was developed in the exact climate conditions it's meant to thrive in. It handles everything from coastal breezes to inland heat waves and desert-edge conditions with ease. It thrives in hot, dry, Mediterranean climates.

How To Grow The Majestic Beauty Olive Tree Successfully
-
Plant in full sun with well-draining soil Choose a spot in your front yard or backyard that gets full sun for at least 6–8 hours daily. The Majestic Beauty olive tree benefits from well-drained soil-sandy, loamy, or even lean clay works fine. Reflected heat from walls or patios is no problem. Allow at least 30 feet of spacing from other trees to accommodate the mature canopy and extensive root system.
-
Water deeply during the first growing season, then reduce frequency Water deeply during the first growing season to help roots establish-weekly or more often during hot spells. After that first year, reduce watering frequency once established. In dry regions, occasional deep soaks during heat waves are all it needs. If you water container plants regularly, keep in mind that containerized trees will need more frequent attention than in-ground plantings.
-
Watch it grow into a 25–30 foot Mediterranean masterpiece Majestic beauty olive trees grow 25 to 30 ft tall with a canopy spread of about 25 feet wide. The growth rate is slow, so expect the tree to fill out gradually over 5–10 years, developing its signature upright open crown and gnarled trunk character along the way. Feed with general purpose fertilizer in spring as new growth begins, and prune lightly in late winter or early spring if shaping is desired.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it really not produce olives? The Majestic Beauty olive tree produces sterile flowers, which means it will not produce messy mature fruit. In rare cases, a few immature olives may appear under unusual environmental conditions (such as proximity to fruiting olives), but this is exceptionally uncommon and the fruit drop is negligible. For all practical purposes, this is a reliably fruitless olive.
How long until it looks mature? Because it's a slow growing tree, expect 5–10 years for it to approach its full height and canopy spread. The classic gnarled trunk character develops gradually over many growing seasons-often a decade or more. The attractive refined appearance to the upright form, however, is evident even in younger specimens. The crown of this superior tree becomes more sculptural with each passing year.
What about spacing near structures? Majestic beauty olive trees grow 25 to 30 ft tall and spread about 20–25 feet wide, so plan accordingly. Keep adequate distance from structures, power lines, and paving. A minimum of 30 feet between trees is recommended.
Can I grow it in a container? Yes. The Majestic Beauty works as a container plant for patios and terraces, though its size will be limited by the pot. Water container plants regularly and protect from extreme cold, as containers offer less insulation than in-ground planting.
They thrive in USDA zones 8–11-what about colder areas? They thrive in USDA zones 8–11, which covers virtually all of California. The tree tolerates temperatures down to approximately 15–20°F, but extended freezes or sudden cold snaps can damage foliage. If you're in a marginal USDA zone, provide winter protection.
When should I prune? It should be pruned in late winter or early spring, before growth begins and flowering starts. Remove any basal suckers as needed. Otherwise, minimal pruning is required-letting it grow naturally encourages the best sculptural form.

Thousands of Healthy Plants Delivered
Yardwork was so great to work with. First they had the Swan Hill olive trees that we had been searching for, we had contacted several other nurseries without any luck previously. Then they answered all of our questions in a timely matter prior to ordering and finally delivered within a few days of placing it. Their staff is incredibly knowledgeable; they delivered and planted our trees with expertise to ensure that they would do well in our yard. We would definitely work with them again for future projects.
